Angel should come with is own warning label that says “Do not attempt to do what he does because you will get hurt.” he says what he wants and that is how it is. Although you may not always agree what he has to say I can tell you that everything he says will never be sugarcoated.

Angel tell us about yourself:

I’ve been touring for about 6 yrs, I started late in life. Started by working for my good friends Taking Back Sunday, I thought after they were done touring for Louder Now I would probably go back to a regular job. Now the idea of working a 9-5 in an office seems completely insane to me, so here I am. Working for TBS led me to working for Henry Rollins, Killswitch Engage, Saves The Day, lamb Of God, Chiodos, The Black Keys, Jeff Dunham, My Chemical Romance, Anberlin, Alice Cooper and probably a couple more I don’t remember.

1) I want to 1st off congratulate you for learning how to ride a bicycle last year, What are your next 3 things you want to learn to do?

I’d like to learn to swim, conquer my fear of heights and how to quickly and effectively choke someone out. Basically all skills I would need to succeed on The Amazing Race, which I really want to be on.

2) You have this great I don’t give a fuck attitude, you say what you think and are also a loyal friend to many top band guys/Merch and crew, how important is loyalty these days where everyone wants to write tell all books about the celebrities/bands they work for?

Loyalty is very important to your friends/employers etc but honestly loyalty to yourself is most important in my opinion. I’m not saying you should only care about yourself and nothing else but my experience has shown me that at the end of the day its most likely that no one is going to look out for you better than you. With that said I know who my friends are and they know they can trust me with their lives and not just their merch money. Which brings me to something I’d like to mention in regards to merch money and loyalty, a lot of American bands take their entire crews with them everywhere they go, except for their merch guy. They will opt to use someone from the countries they are going to. I’ve always thought this was shitty and didn’t make sense. You take your guitar techs, TM’s, sound guys etc but you trust your money to someone you don’t know. Why not hire an entire overseas crew? Anyway in terms of loyalty, a band that chooses to have someone else do my job when they are overseas without giving me the choice to come or not is not loyal to me and therefore when they are back in the US I’ll only be working for them only if something better hasn’t come along. Yeah.

3) What’s your opinion of the top Ten song/albums on iTunes today? (Name like 5 of them and write a small review on them “a la Angel”)

Let me open Itunes real quick because I have no idea what’s on there. Ok I’m back.

Top 5 albums:

1.Adele - I just listened to a few of the clips here. Actually my first time hearing Adele, not really my thing but she can actually sing. Good for her, I’m surprised she has done so well, talent like this is usually ignored.

2. Attack! Attack! - I won’t even listen to this, I’ve heard of this band and I know what their deal is, they are awful. Shitty music for people that don’t know any better. Just a bunch of haircuts.

3.Lana Del Rey - From the 30 sec clips, its not bad, I could probably get into this. I should mention here that I have an affinity for shitty pop music. Britney, Gaga, Katy Perry, I’m all about it.

4. The Black Keys - Now here’s a good one. I’m not just saying this because I work for them but The Black Keys are awesome, great band, great dudes, great crew. They bust their asses and deserve all the success they are getting. Can’t wait to be out with them again.

5. Drake - I liked him better on Degrassi. Did I mention I was on an episode of Degrassi? The one with Taking Back Sunday, I have 2 lines, it was awesome.

4) We all have that band or artist that we would never work for no matter what, mine is Kings of Leon. Which ones are yours and why?

Skrillex, or any DJ type thing. I HATE that kind of “Music” because its not music. Though I don’t choose who I work for based on what they do, I’m more concerned with the work environment and what I’m getting paid but I would not be able to hide my disdain for this whole scene and would probably get fired. Also I would never do warped tour, warped tour for merch guys is the worst, out there first thing in the morning in the muck and the mire dealing with whatever the elements have in store, not to mention the thousands of shitty kids and shitty bands. I think if you do warped and like it you are surely some kind of crazy person.

5) You are in the desert and it’s hot as fuck, you have the choice to go in a room with AC drinks and food but with Yanni, Kenny G, Nickelback and Creed playing all day all the time or stay out in the heat, which one is your choice and why?

I’d be in the room. I love AC and I REALLY HATE the heat. I’m really good at tuning out music/people around me that I don’t care for.

I’ve never actually met themerchdude, other than online, via text or phone I don’t really know who the hell is on the other end. I think he tweets too much but I also appreciate that he takes the merchlife so seriously and differentiates between real merch people and the jerk offs who are working for their boyfriends band and don’t know what they are doing. I think he is also hispanic and we share some Puerto Rican heritage so VIVA LA MERCH MUCHACHO!
