Many bands love their fans, some usually mistake the word “Love” with “Doing” yet the importance of a solid fan base is key. Bands connect with fans either through their music, look, lyrics or just coming across as a wonderful person. This is a powerful bond that if a band is smart can make an average band become a huge thing. We see this all the time when bands or artist that are not very good musically are at the top of the charts. What is the secret ? It’s just being likable or just look crazy, which makes labels push these artist because they know they will make money and sadly, money is key.

Some bands enjoy coming across as assholes and it works for a bit, then they just fade away, it takes time some last more then others but they all go away. Bands need to find their niche in the music business and when they figure out they may or may not become successful. Think about it Adele’s album, according the stupid standers of the music business her album should have never worked, she isn’t a drug addict, she wasn’t the most marketable in terms of look, yet she found her niche, Lyrics and her voice. Now she is sitting on top of the world laughing at that dude that inspired her to write or co write her songs.

As much as I make fun of gimmick bands I can understand why they go that route, Sadly talent isn’t everything. If it was most of these bands/artist wouldn’t be on the charts and most of the bands traveling in a van, sleeping on floors would be on TOP and the ones flying on private jet would be playing their cousin’s local bar. Please understand I am not saying all of the ones on the top dont have talent some do but they are very few and in between.

Sometimes a band/artist has to act like they are CRAZY to be taken SERIOUSLY by the record companies. Just take a second and imagine Lady Gaga without the make up and meat dresses, she would have never made it as big as she did, even having a great voice and can play the shit out of her piano. But every so often a band or artist with no gimmick will come out of nowhere and still prove that talent will take you places.
